Holt Middle School

Students plant in the Holt Middle School garden. Spring 2011.

Here at Holt, we have a garden, and our slogan is: Growing Plants, Growing Minds, Growing Together. Some of the goals of the community garden are to help students learn about gardening and how to work together.

The Holt Community Garden started with only one twelve-foot raised bed. We built it in the front of the school so everyone could see it. Since Mr. Mason, the principal, noticed we could grow plants and vegetables successfully, he helped us expand the garden. Now we have eight raised beds and a tool shed.

The same front garden bed later that year! Summer 2010.

Peas from the Holt Middle School garden are served in the cafeteria. Spring 2011.

We are starting to supply the cafeteria with the food that we grow. Right now, it is mostly lettuce, spinach, and peas but we are hoping to expand the variety of vegetables that are served with lunches.

If you want to donate to our garden or volunteer at our garden, please visit our school website: fayar.net/holt. Help us grow plants, grow minds, and grow together.  -written by Brett Polach, 6th Grader, Holt Middle School
